Charles R. McCarthy

 

 

Staff Sergeant Charles R. McCarthy was killed in action October 14, 1944, when his plane crashed in Fauling, China.

        Charles entered service on November 7, 1942.  He trained at
Miami, Florida; Amarillo, Texas; Seatle, Washington; and
Great Bend, Kansas.

        He was assigned to the Army Air Force and was sent overseas, serving in India and China.

        He received two citations, —one from President Roosevelt and one from General H.H. Arnold.  He had earned his Air Medal and the
Purple Heart

Charles attend Jersey City Schools and moved to New Milford after he was married.  He lived at 296 Birchwood Road.
